According to the RMWB and Wood Buffalo RCMP, no fines have been issued anywhere across the region. From December 21 to January 3, the Mounties have investigated eight situations where people allegedly broke the restrictions. One of these complaints was for a business, however, neither the municipality nor RCMP gave a name. Over these two weeks, there were also five calls for people not self-isolating when they should. All of these situations were resolved or unfounded without any fines being handed out. ....

Fast forward 21 years and Haul Truck 17-100 is getting its chance to be in the limelight as it’s set a world record by being the first of its kind to surpass 150,000 operating hours. Craig Coolen, Syncrude’s Manager – Mine Mobile Maintenance, tells Mix News the vehicle was originally only supposed to have an operating life of around 72,000 hours. ....
By Jaryn Vecchio Fort McMurray, October 2018 The majority of local small businesses believe they’ve survived the worse from the COVID-19 pandemic and aftermath of last year’s flood. That’s according to the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce which recently conducted a survey to see how businesses were feeling heading into 2021. Executive Director Dianna De Sousa tells Mix News over 60 per cent of respondents noted they were confident they wouldn’t be closing their doors anytime soon. “There will probably be a small amount that’s possibly going to struggle, but I do see brighter skies coming.” In 2020, the community lost between 15 and 20 per cent of local businesses. ....
