New Delhi: The Centre Tuesday told the Supreme Court that it was contemplating some action on the issue of regulating OTT platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.
A bench comprising Chief Justice S A Bobde and Justices A S Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, which was initially of the view that the petitioner should approach the government for the remedy, asked the government to file its response within six weeks to the PIL seeking OTT regulation by an autonomous body. ....

UPSC Civil Service: Not In Favour Of Granting Relaxation In Age Limit, Centre Tells Top Court


Civil Services 2021 preliminary exam details are expected to be released on February 10.

The Centre Tuesday told the Supreme Court that it is against granting one-time relaxation on age limit to UPSC civil service aspirants, including those who had exhausted their last attempt in 2020 exam amid the COVID-19 pandemic and would get one more chance this year provided they are not age barred, as it would be discriminatory to other candidates.
The Centre told this to a bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar which reserved its verdict on a plea which had sought one more chance in the UPSC s civil services exam to those aspirants who could not appear in their last attempt in 2020 due to the pandemic. ....

New Delhi: The Centre Tuesday assured that the vaccines in the pipeline in India and across the globe will protect people against the mutations in SARS-CoV-2 found in the UK and South Africa.
Principal scientific advisor to the government, Prof Krishnaswamy Vijay Raghavan, told a press conference that there is no need to worry about the efficacy of vaccines in regard to the reported variants of novel coronavirus at this stage.
“There are changes reported in the variants of the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 and the vaccines target these proteins to build shield against the effect of the virus. People are concerned whether the current vaccines would work against these variants or not? But the changes in the variants are not sufficient to make the vaccine ineffective since it stimulates our immune system to produce a wide range of protective antibodies,” Raghavan said. ....
