Argentinien: Verbot der Lachszucht auf Feuerland setzt Umweltschutz-Maßstäbe

Buenos Aires. Als weltweit erstes Land hat Argentinien die industrielle Lachszucht verboten. Das südamerikanische Land möchte damit Umweltauswirkungen wie in Chile verhindern. Ein Gesetz des Provinzparlaments auf Feuerland hat den Ausschlag gegeben. Der Beagle-Kanal, der an der Südspitze Südamerikas den Atlantik mit dem Pazifik verbindet, bietet als einziges Gewässer Argentiniens gute Bedingungen für die Lachszucht. Das feuerländische Gesetz kommt somit einem nationalen Verbot gleich.
Der Gesetzesentwurf war von dem Abgeordneten Pablo Villegas (Movimiento Popular Fueguino) eingebracht und von Umweltorganisationen unterstützt worden. Seit 2018 setzen sich Umweltschützer:innen, aber auch der Gastronomie- und Tourismussektor gegen die industrielle Lachszucht ein. Damals hatte Argentinien ein Abkommen mit Norwegen zur Einrichtung von Lachszuchtanlagen im Beagle-Kanal unterschrieben.
