GEORGE TOWN: A freak storm hit Penang on Tuesday (April 19) during evening rush hour, uprooting trees and causing traffic congestion on the island and mainland of Penang.
GEORGE TOWN: The Central Seberang Prai Civil Defence Force is prepared for the eventuality of floods following the current monsoon shift.
Its Disaster Management Secretariat said in a statement on Sunday (July 11) the force is ready with assets and personnel as well as standard operating procedure to rescue and relocate flood victims in enhanced movement control order (MCO) areas to temporary relief centres. The Civil Defence Force is always on standby for any possibility in line with weather alert warnings issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department, it said.
The statement said three fibreglass boats, an aluminium boat, a rigid inflatable boat, a high rescue vehicle, a light rescue 4X4 vehicle, a medical rescue vehicle and 70 personnel from the district headquarters are all on standby in the event of floods in the district.
