ALTON The Central Illinois Cougars were welcomed Friday to the 1st MidAmercia Soccer Complex at Gordon Moore Park by Alton Mayor Brant Walker and Alton Parks and Recreation Director Michael Haynes.
“I couldn’t be happier,” Walker said. “Having the Cougars play in Alton is another affordable amenity that is family friendly and will also bring more people to our region.”
Kinney Myles, owner and head coach for the Carlinville-based team, started it in 1999, playing home games in Carlinville and Springfield areas. The Cougars are part of the Hidden Gems Football League and play in the Ruby Division, winning three league championships and played in three other championship games. ....

Add football to the list of semi-pro sports to call Alton home. The announcement came in a Friday afternoon media availability at Gordon Moore Park. The Central Illinois Cougars will play on one of the new turf fields at the 1
st Mid-America soccer complex.
The team had been playing in towns like Carlinville and Springfield, according to Alton Park and Recreation Director Mike Haynes. He tells The Big Z this is full contact football with many local ties.

There will be additional bleachers added to the turf field at Gordon Moore Park, which has seen many upgrades to the sidewalks, concessions, and other amenities recently. The Cougars’ season starts in April and will run through early June. ....
