Six charged in separate drug cases
Upon entering David Lopez’s city apartment at 1037 Dewey Ave. with a search warrant on April 27, members of the county’s Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) discovered packaged crack cocaine in a safe, a dresser and a bedroom closet, according to an affidavit filed at Frey’s office.
Also in the safe was a stolen handgun, investigators said, adding that Lopez, 28, had on him an estimated $3,000 of suspected drug money and two cellphones, one a girlfriend told police was his “drug work phone,” court records stated.
An estimated two ounces of crack cocaine was seized at the scene. Following his arraignment hours later before District Judge Christian Frey on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, illegal possession of a firearm and felony receiving stolen property, Lopez was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail. ....

Firefighters battle brush fires near Jersey Shore | News, Sports, Jobs

JERSEY SHORE – Several acres of woods were consumed in a series of three to four brush fires that broke out Thursday afternoon along Cement Hollow Road and nearby Fisher Mountain Road in Piatt Township, according to emergency crews.
Numerous volunteer firefighters from Lycoming and Clinton counties were battling the smoky fire along with several forestry crews from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
When this report was filed just after 4 p.m., firefighters were still trying contain the fire, which was initially reported at 2 p.m. Smoke was visible for several miles along Route 220. ....

JERSEY SHORE – Plumes of smoke rising several hundred feet into the air and visible for miles covered much of a mountain range along Cement Hollow Road in Piatt Township on Thursday afternoon as dozens of volunteer firefighters and state forestry crews worked very hard to contained at least three separate fires.
What reportedly began as two small separate brush fires near a set of railroad tracks in the 2700 block of Cement Hollow Road about 2 p.m. quickly spread, consuming a large swath of land on very steep terrain.
Firefighters from here and surrounding communities were initially dispatched, but they were soon joined by firefighting crews from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). ....
