NCPA to Gov. Abbott: Enact PBM Reforms, Support Patients and Small Business Pharmacies

NCPA
May 14, 2021
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (May 14, 2021) The National Community Pharmacists Association issued the following statement on behalf of CEO B. Douglas Hoey, pharmacist, MBA, urging Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) to sign HB 1763, which unanimously passed the state House and Senate:
“Pharmacies are among the most trusted and accessible health care providers but unfortunately, PBM overreach threatens their ability to stay in business and provide health services that patients need. We strongly urge Gov. Abbott to sign HB 1763, reining in PBMs and protecting Texas’ small business pharmacies and those they serve. Texans will be the ones to suffer if PBMs continue to engage in unfair business practices and interfere with patient care.” ....

The Texas Hill Country is known for its picturesque waterways, including natural springs, artificial lakes and secluded swimming holes and the residents who work to defend them.
Residents and environmental activists, who worry that the nutrient-rich discharge will affect the ecological balance in the water and potentially lead to algae blooms and other problems, have fought construction of these plants through numerous avenues  including at the Texas Capitol.
For years, these activists have pushed lawmakers to block the issuance of new discharge permits in areas deemed sensitive, including the contributing zone of the Edwards Aquifer, but the legislation has languished in committees and failed to make it to the full House or Senate for consideration. ....

ALEC Members Lead Voter Suppression Efforts in 2020 Battleground States

April 14, 2021 - 4:30pm
By Don Wiener and Alex Kotch
State legislative leaders and members of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) are spearheading many of the GOP s efforts at voter suppression in the states, especially those that saw close 2020 presidential results. More than 360 bills have been introduced in 47 states to restrict voting access since the beginning of the year, according to the Brennan Center for Justice, which tracks state legislation on voting and elections.
The Center for Media and Democracy has determined that more than 100 Republican politicians connected to ALEC in just six battleground states are lead sponsors or co-sponsors of those bills. ....

TEXAS – State lawmakers are pouring through more than 200 proposed bills in Austin that would bring change to Texas’ electricity market. While almost all of the proposed laws focus on requiring power generators to maintain their plants to avoid another massive outage like we saw in the winter freeze, one bill would make wholesale and variable rate electric plans (like the plans sold by Griddy) illegal in Texas.
We asked all of the state representatives and state senators from the greater Houston area the same three questions to find out which lawmakers are working to resolve the issues with Texas’ electric market. Twenty-four lawmakers didn’t answer our questions. You’ll see who didn’t reply at the bottom of this article. ....
