In 2018, Erdem Moralioglu realised a long-held dream when he was commissioned to create costumes for the Royal Ballet’s
Corbyantic Games, a new ballet by Christopher Wheeldon. Standing in the wings of the Royal Opera House during rehearsals, he noticed a towering poster of Rudolf Nureyev. It was invisible from the stalls but dominated the backstage – which led him to think about the dynamic between Margot Fonteyn and Nureyev, the arc of a dancer’s career, and what happens behind the curtain versus onstage.
“When you’re sidestage, you really see the transformation of a dancer stepping into that spotlight,” he said before releasing a film of his collection on Tuesday afternoon. “I always knew there would be a collection inspired by that world.” ....
