New Delhi: Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora announced on Monday (April 5) that those who are affected by the COVID-19 virus should not be disenfranchised during the Assam Assembly polls.
Arora had addressed day one of the EC’s two-day international virtual election visitors programme for election officials from other countries. The programme includes virtual visits to five polling stations during polling on Tuesday for 110 delegates from 26 countries.
He said, “Those who are COVID affected and quarantine should not be disenfranchised.”

Kolkata: On Friday, soon after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for assembly elections in four states and one union territory in a press conference in New Delhi, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee addressed the media in Kolkata to raise questions on the “ECI’s neutrality”.
“Bihar, with about 240 seats, had the elections conducted in three phases. Assam too will undergo polls in three phases. Tamil Nadu, which has 234 seats, will have a single-phase polling, and so is the case for Kerala, which has a CPM-led government. Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], February 27 (ANI): Election Commission of India on Saturday appointed 38 IAS as general Observers and 16 IPS officers of Punjab as Police observers for poll-bound five states Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Union Territory Puducherry.
Disclosing this today, Chief Electoral Officer Punjab (CEO) Dr S Karuna Raju said that ECI will conduct a briefing meeting of Observers on March 3rd, 2021 through video conference in this regard. ....
