Why should one shed tears for the dropping of a chapter on Mughals when India’s history books gloss over Ahoms, reduce Cholas and Pallavas to insignificance, and mention the Vijayanagara Empire in passing?
Changes in textbooks have to be based on rigorous research. Currently, they appear to be targeting certain periods of Indian history. They also do not indicate an appreciation of developments in world history
The erased chapters are related to ‘Kings and Chronicles; the Mughal Courts (C. 16th and 17th centuries)’ from the book ‘Themes of Indian History-Part II’.
CBSE dropped chapters about Democracy and Diversity, Non-Aligned Movement, Cold War, rise of Islamic empires, chronicles of Mughal courts and the Industrial Revolution from the history and political science syllabi of classes 11 and 12.
