Pleasantville Boys Rout Colfax-Mingo, Girls Travel to Earlham for Playoff Opener

The Trojans’ boys put forth one of their most cohesive offensive efforts of the season in the victory. Mason Scheve led the way with 20 points, including knocking down 12 in the first quarter. Caylor Clark and Taylon Mount also stepped up scoring wise for Pleasantville with 12 and nine points respectively. Coach Tom Wilkins tells KNIA Sports that it was one of the team’s better wins of the season.

“We won Thursday and Friday but we didn’t play well. Tonight I thought we played better. We did some things. We ran our offense. We got contributions from other guys which we got to have moving forward. Braidy Friday gave us a big lift. Taylon Mount knocked a few down. Caylor Clark and Austin McMillin along with Mason Scheve. Mason is going to get his 20, but we needed somebody to step up and that is what happened here tonight.” ....

Pleasantville Splits Doubleheader with Interstate-35

The Trojans’ girls got their third consecutive win and are above .500 for the first time since they were 1-0 after their season-opening win over Twin Cedars November 20th. Despite a bad shooting night, Pleasantville’s press defense coupled with ten points from Rachel Harvey was enough to get the win. The Trojans swept the Roadrunners for the first time since 2017-18.

Pleasantville’s girls will be back in action Thursday night for non-conference action at Southeast Warren. The game will begin at 7:30 PM.

The Trojans’ boys close losses continue as they lose by one possession for the second time this season against the Roadrunners. Mason Scheve led the way as he recorded his second 30-point game of the season, dropping 30. Caylor Clark was second in scoring with 17 points. The loss drops Pleasantville to 5-11 on the season. ....

The Trojans’ girls cut a 21-point deficit down to five with a minute to go, but they couldn’t get over the hump as they dropped their second consecutive game. The Trojans outscored No. 3 in Class 3A Des Moines Christian in the fourth quarter 18-7. Malorie McKinney led Pleasantville in scoring with 12 points, followed by Brianna Benge with nine–all coming on three-pointers. Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA Sports that even though the fourth quarter was impressive, the third left much to be desired.

“The third quarter really got away from us, we were down eight at the half and we were down 21 after 3. We got outscored 17-4 in the third quarter. Then we came back and we outscored them and got it to five. It ended up nine, but I say this every time, our kids have no quit.” ....

Pleasantville Knocks Down 13 threes for First Win of 2021

The Trojans put up their highest scoring total of the season thus far, and their hottest hand was Taylon Mount. Mount, who exited the last game against Albia with a head injury, knocked down seven three-pointers and had 23 points. Pleasantville also got 24 points from Junior Mason Scheve.

Pleasantville’s scoring also went to some of the supplemental pieces in the Trojans lineup, as Colby Sandholdt had ten points. Austin McMillan had seven and Caylor Clark had six in the victory. The Trojans led by as much as 15 in the win.

Pleasantville will be back in action for a girls-boys West Central Conference doubleheader Friday against AC/GC. The doubleheader begins at 6:15 PM and will be broadcast on the KNIA3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch on the call. ....
