Pirates 2021 MLB Draft 11:41 pm The MLB Draft has been going on for the past couple of days. The Pittsburgh Pirates are trying to secure their future that will allow them to compete in the National League and they started off with a really good piece. With the 1st Overall Pick, the Buccos selected Catcher Henry Davis from Louisville. He becomes the 2nd Catcher in the last 3 years to be taken 1st Overall. Davis was very strong for the Cardinals this past Season hitting .370 with 15 Home Runs and 10 stolen bases. While becoming a 1st Team All-American and a Finalist for the Buster Posey Award given out to the Nation’s top Catcher. It is expected that Davis will now head to Bradenton to start his Professional Career.

The Cubs took Kansas State left-hander Jordan Wicks, a 6-3, 220-pounder with a mid-90s fastball and what analysts covering the event on MLB Network called the best changeup in the draft. Analyst Harold Reynolds predicted Wicks will be the first player in the draft to reach the big leagues. “It’s a surreal moment,” Wicks said. “It’s something you dream about. And I just couldn’t be happier to be wearing blue right now.” Cubs vice president of scouting Dan Kantrovitz called Wicks the best college lefty in the draft and said he was in the top 10 overall on the team’s internal draft board.

The Cardinals clubbed seven home runs in the win, setting a new ACC tournament record. The 11 combined dingers between the two teams were also the most in tournament history, breaking the old record of eight. U of L first baseman Alex Binelas contributed the most to the record-setting afternoon, tying an individual tournament record by hitting three bombs. He finished the game 4-for-5 with six runs driven in.
