RALEIGH, N.C. — When Catawba College, a private school in Salisbury, North Carolina, added another small residence hall, it did not have to look far to find a suitable building.

Currently under construction, the venue was moved from dream to concept to reality by Crystal Wilson, a James City County resident who worked in park administration in northern Virginia for over 20 years. She moved to James City County three years ago to be closer to family. Wanting to do something beneficial for the community with a parcel of land that her family owned, Wilson thought about creating a venue space where people could gather and make memories.

Maturity, commitment of students guide Roanoke through historic fall semester Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Health Sandy McGhee walked slowly over to Catawba Hall, clad in full personal protective equipment (PPE) and carrying medicine. It was the first Friday afternoon of the fall semester, and there was already a spike in COVID-19 positive tests. Students who tested positive were ushered to Catawba Hall.  The plans for the semester had been in place since the summer, and McGhee’s department was prepared. Those plans had been all on paper, though. When McGhee spoke to the nervous, wide-eyed students, it all became real.
