Indian team to visit US for induction of key naval choppers SECTIONS Share Synopsis The 140-warship Navy is currently grappling with just a handful of old anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopters like Kamov-28s and Sea Kings when the presence of Chinese nuclear and diesel-electric submarines is only going to further increase in the IOR. The Navy will get at least three of the 24 MH-60 ‘Romeo’ helicopters this year. These will help in detecting and destroying enemy submarines in the Indian Ocean Region. The USN is procuring 11 additional P-8A Poseidon long-range anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare aircraft from Boeing for $1.7 billion, the manufacturer announced on 31 March. Two of these Poseidons will be supplied to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as a partner in the P-8A programme. The latest contract will bring to 114 the total number of P-8As in the USN inventory, plus 14 bought by the RAAF via the FMS programme. Other orders for the P-8A (or variants thereof) have come from India, New Zealand, Norway, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and the UK. ....

Both countries will each receive two ASW Fregates. U.S. Navy Drone to get first-of-its-kind Anti-Submarine Warfare Capability Our Bureau 8278 MQ-9A UAS The U.S. Navy is working with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) to develop first-of-its-kind Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capability for its new MQ-9B SeaGuardian UAS. GA-ASI said today that during recent tests, the Navy’s MQ-9 drone successfully tracked a small submersible target for 3 hours using 10 sonobuoys dropped from it. On November 24, GA-ASI successfully demonstrated an ‘A’ size sonobuoy carriage, release, process and control from a company-owned MQ-9A Block 5 on a U.S. Navy Pacific test range. Using a SATCOM link, GA-ASI remotely processed bathythermal and acoustic data from deployed ‘A’ size Directional Frequency Analysis and Recording (DIFAR-AN/SSQ-53G), Directional Command Activated Sonobuoy System (DICASS-AN/SSQ-62F) and Bathythermograph (BT-AN/SSQ-36B) sonobuoys and accurately generated a target track in real ....
