Warrington M&S store plays host to First Light exhibition


A GUERILLA exhibition has popped up at Warrington s former Marks and Spencer store to give a new generation of photographers the chance to showcase their images.
In 2020, final year students from all over the region were unable to host a degree show – the culmination of three years of work – due to pandemic restrictions.
But thanks to a project by Manchester s Castlefield Gallery to breathe new life into unused commercial properties, the show will go on for 13 of the most promising new photographers from the north.

A collaboration between a number of groups – including Culture Warrington and Warrington Borough Council – will see the First Light exhibition at the old M&S unit from tomorrow, Saturday, until July 4. ....

Roger Stephenson OBE has withdrawn from the front line of Manchester architecture, from a position and cause he has been fighting for in his own name since 1979. He has made enemies and lost battles, but few would deny that Roger Stephenson OBE has had a greater impact on the shape and face of contemporary Manchester than any individual since Alfred Waterhouse. If Manchester has a look, it came out of the Stephenson closet. He was awarded a First Class Honours degree by Liverpool University School of Architecture in 1969. Stephenson is a progressive, and he moved through BDP and Michael Hyde & Associates (as a partner) before establishing Stephenson Mills (with George Mills) in 1979. ....

February 2021 - New Wolverhampton date for British Art Show 9 - University of Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton will now host British Art Show 9 (BAS9) in January 2022 after new dates for the touring exhibition were announced by organisers after consultation with the partner cities.
The event – which is the biggest touring exhibition of contemporary art in the UK – will take place in the city between 22 January and 10 April 2022.
Wolverhampton was due to host the opening of the exhibition in March 2021 however, due to the continuing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions, the dates and order of the tour have been rescheduled. British Art Show 9 will now open in Aberdeen in July 2021.
In Wolverhampton, British Art Show 9 will take place at Wolverhampton Art Gallery and the University of Wolverhampton School of Art.   ....
