Grant Helps OSU-Cascades Innovation Hub

More than 30 economic development, workforce, education, business and government representatives in Central Oregon will launch a process to advance innovation-based economic development for the region, thanks to a $140,000 grant from Business Oregon and the Oregon Innovation Council. Oregon State University – Cascades, the recipient of the grant, collaborated with regional partners on the grant proposal. The Oregon Innovation Council grant program funds regional partnerships known as innovation hubs around the state to help advance innovation-based economic development and encourage participation among populations currently underserved in the innovation economy. The Central Oregon effort was one of 11 partnerships around the state to receive a grant. Ken Wilhelm Awarded Lifetime Achievement

The Bend Chamber is proud to announce the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient of the 2022 Business Excellence Awards, sponsored by US Bank and The Bulletin. The 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient is Ken Wilhelm. Ken has provided executive leadership for United Way of Central Oregon since 1988. He has had direct responsibility for all business affairs of the organization including strategic planning, fiscal accountability, resource development, community engagement, community impact, staffing, and day-to-day operations. He has been a pillar in the non-profit landscape in Central Oregon, connecting non-profits with needed resources and financial support. Most recently, he oversaw the organization's expansion from the Greater Bend area to Tri-County, supporting all of Central Oregon. OSU-Cascades Hosts 'Innovation District' Mtg | MyCentralOregon.com

Oregon State University – Cascades will host a meeting Feb. 4 for business and real estate leaders to discuss plans for an innovation district on the Bend campus. The session, called a "market sounding," will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. in Edward J. Ray Hall on the OSU-Cascades campus and also be presented virtually. The session is free, but registration is required. The concept of a 24-acre innovation district was approved by the city of Bend as part of the campus planning effort in 2018. The first phase of the district will encompass eight acres. The district will bring university researchers and businesses together to accelerate the creation of technology, provide hands-on opportunities to enhance students' career-readiness and contribute to the region's economy and workforce.
