Marc Lipsitch, professor of epidemiology and director of the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, is joining an expert planning group aimed at laying the groundwork for discovering and preserving lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Covid Commission Planning Group (Covid CPG) includes more than two dozen of the nation’s top virologists, public health experts, clinicians, and former government officials. On Tuesday, the University of Virginia
announced that its Miller Center for Public Affairs will serve as a base for a COVID Commission Planning Group, led by UVA professor Philip Zelikow, the former executive director of the 9/11 Commission.
The planning group hopes to prepare the way for a potential National COVID Commission set up to help America and the world learn from this pandemic and safeguard against future threats.

These things. what do you make of the strategy of president obama choosing the top two lawyers from his campaign and mr. ginsburg from the romney campaign to try to head up a commission like this? first of all, if you re going to have a commission like this, you have to have credible democrats and republicans. there was a question whether there would be a credible republican who would be interested in doing something like this. the fact that ben ginsburg, who is a well respected republican lawyer is willing to sit down with bob bauer and sit down with this commission and try and hash things out is an achievement. but they ve set the bar really low. if you look at the press release that the white house put out about this, all they re going to do is issue some guidelines for states and localities about best practices. it doesn t look like federal election reform, which i think is something we really need, is on the agenda. so it may just be that it s going to put out some ideas. then t ....
