also tonight, nearly five months after the deadly capitol riot and insurrection led by a pro trump mob, republican house leaders are now openly opposing a bipartisan commission to investigate the riot. tonight on the eve of the house vote to create the 9/11 style commission, the leadership sent members of their party a letter telling them to vote no. the main objection cited was, quote, the legislation establishes a commission to only investigate the attack on the u.s. capital on january 6th. an easy answer here would seem to be, well yes, it was the only violent insurrection at the capitol that we know of in the modern era. house minority leader kevin mccarthy set the stage for this earlier today when he came out with his own statement against the commission, noting its scope was too narrow and should include other acts of political violence. earlier tonight, he defended his position during an appearance on fox news. you remember good friday, an officer was killed. w ....
the quorum needed to approve the bill. at least for now, governor greg abbott will add election integrity to a list of topics for a special session. he like others in florida, iowa, and georgia are using former president trump s lies about the 2020 election to make it harder to vote in future elections. democrats said they ll keep fighting. we used all the tools in our toolbox to fight this bill and tonight we pulled out the last one because reno longer going stand to allow them to continue push measures that disenfranchise our voters. so really it s a witch hunt. itst a witch hunt that is aimed at people of color. we re going back centuries. we may have won the war tonight but the battle is not other. we ll continue to fight and speak out against those measures that attempt silence our voices. they don t want you to know the truth on that bill. they don t want you to know how they don t want to see you at the polls. they don t want you to know you have rights. ....
