Costly vandalism repairs needed for $60,000 public artwork in Christchurch


“There has been some damage to some of the dahlias when people have been climbing up the stalks and hanging off them,’’ he said.
“It is quite frustrating for us because you are engineering it for weather, wind and rain, but you can never account for stupid people.”

The Dahlias sculpture soon after its installation in December 2019.
The work would involve replacing parts broken by the vandals and reinforcing critical parts of the sculpture, Veitch said.
“Hopefully it won’t happen again.”
Council head of urban regeneration, design and heritage Carolyn Ingles said the repairs and strengthening work would cost about $8000 and would be completed in early May. ....
