Easton police sergeant retires after two decades with Easton EASTON – Sgt. Carolyn Gurney retired from the Easton Police Department after a 23-year career this month. On February 9, 1998 Gurney began her career with the Easton Police Department. The morning of July 7, she completed her final shift and is headed into retirement. Over these past 23 years, Gurney has worn many hats inside the department. After working as a patrol officer on the evening shift, she was assigned to Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical School as the school resource officer. In October 2015 she became the first female officer promoted to the rank of sergeant in the Town of Easton. Following that promotion, she served as a patrol sergeant and as detective sergeant.

Gingerbread battle among police departments

Wicked Local It may not be the “Great British Baking Show,” but area police departments are being just as competitive showing off their creative culinary talents in a gingerbread house contest. And Walpole police s entry is one of the finalists. The sugary competition is being held by Mansfield sixth-grader Dakota Matthews of She Loves Police. Dakota, 11, shares her love for police officers with the public by posting her visits on her She Loves Police Facebook page, raising funds for officers, and now holding a gingerbread contest for them. Dakota’s mission is to meet a police officer in every city and town of Massachusetts.  Dakota visited 211 departments in the cities and towns in Massachusetts and 11 others.
