SPRINGFIELD â Carol Stamatakis may be stepping down from her role as executive director of Senior Solutions but she plans to stay active in advocating on behalf of the same clientele sheâs serving now. âIâve always been very much an advocate at heart,â she said. âAnd I wanted to dedicate as much time and effort to really advocating for older adults and advocating for systemic changes because I feel, in particular, the pandemic has really highlighted just so many of the shortcomings in our communities and just our ability to support and include older people.â ....

Mark Boutwell, who for almost seven years has served as director of social services at Senior Solutions, has been appointed executive director of the agency effective Monday, April 5. Boutwell has worked for more than 37 years in human services agencies in Vermont and New Hampshire, developing and leading programs and providing services for individuals with a range of needs. At Senior Solutions he has managed the day-to-day operation of the Springfield-based organization, administered a number of grant programs, and represented Senior Solutions on a variety of regional and state committees and task forces serving older Vermonters. âMark Boutwell is a compassionate and skilled leader who supports the dignity of all people. Senior Solutions, the Council on Aging for Southeastern Vermont, has selected Mark Boutwell to be its next executive director. Boutwell, who has been the director of social services at the Springfield, Vt.-based nonprofit organization for around seven years, will begin his new role on Monday, according to a news release. He replaces Carol Stamatakis, who retired after leading the organization for five years. “Mark Boutwell is a compassionate and skilled leader who supports the dignity of all people,” Senior Solutions Board of Directors President Barbara Woods said in a news release. “His familiarity with Senior Solutions and his collaboration with regional and state leaders across Vermont will serve us well.” ....

Nikki Fortier, a longtime Upper Valley resident who has worked for the senior living facility since it opened, replaces Jodi Egger, who led the organization since June 2019 and returned to Florida to care for her elderly parents, said Brooke Ciardelli, one of the managing owners of The Village. “With the impact of COVID on everyone’s lives, she just felt like she couldn’t be that far apart from family,” Ciardelli said of Egger, who was initially hired as interim manager, replacing the first manager, Sandy Conrad. “Initially she was going to be a bridge and then it sort of extended on a bit longer, but that was all pre-COVID.” ....

Delivering new reassurance contacts with our Volunteer Visitor Program recipients is helping our volunteers initiate new protocols. COVID-19 challenges have caused volunteers some anxious moments because they miss the routines of seeing their visitor partners in person. We all feel the need for companionship. In place of the important face to face visits, we are now doing phone visits, plus doing shopping and other errands. This helps fill the void. Our volunteers want to be busy. We have responded by finding ways to lend laptops and other devices to the individuals the Volunteer Visitors serve so that they can have Zoom get togethers, complete needed telehealth conferences and connect with loved ones. Aside from having virtual visits, the volunteers may be able to tutor some aging Vermonters on the techniques in using these devices. ....
