irregularities. we re all hoping that she ll be okay. reporting live in oakley. i m jody hernandez, nbc bay area news. poor woman. what a scare for her. thank you, jody. let s check in with jeff ranieri. it s a good reminder that lightning is one of the leading killers when it comes to weather. so if you see the lightning or you hear the thunder, the best advice is to head indoors. most of that activity again happening from the east bay over to the north bay from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 this afternoon. we ve seen a lot of the lightning strikes from the bay area wind down at least for now. most of the rainfall up toward napa with .07 of an inch and it has been hit and miss, san francisco nothing, and the santa cruz mountains about a tenth of an inch. we have this upper level area of low pressure offshore right now and it s helping to spiral an instability to the south and the next area i m concerned about is the south bay as we could get some of these thunderstorms moving int
roadways. ocean beach, a bit of a drizzle storm for you this morning. 53 degrees. the line of showers weakening as it crossed the bay area. just enough lift of the low-level clouds to wring out a few more rain drops to probably mid morning. so as you plan your day today, a few early showers, skies starting to clear around lunch time today and by the afternoon we ll see numbers running warmer than yesterday, upper 60s to near 70 but the seven-day forecast ahead could get close to 80 degrees. we ll talk about the timing of that warming trend coming up a few minutes from now. sounds good, rob. thank you. the hunger strike in san francisco is over but the fight continues. after refusing to eat for more than two weeks, a group of protesters known as the frisco five ended up in the hospital. supporters say they aren t giving up. they still want the city s police chief to be fired after several deadly officer involved shootings. a general strike is planned for tomorrow morning.
companies all pursuing the same goal and doing that with venture-capital sitting available with talent floating around. it is hard to imagine i can even imagine fairchild anywhere else. the stories are mind-boggling and it occurred four blocks from here. marshall cox told me when he was hired he came out of l a with no idea he would be vp of sales, had no idea what fairchild really made and he got here and it was a half finished wooden building. the upper floor was empty and there were boards on them. and folding chairs and they did a slide show and they were showing a transistor and marshall was going to have the entire southwest region of fairchild and he looks at the slide and he didn t know if the transistor which was 12 feet across was life-size or tiny. and he said i got to get a station wagon. how am i going to carry samples around? then they broke for break and he walked over to the sawhorses with the plywood and all he put out were plates of brownies and bottles of
martin luther king, jr. but with started looking at him as this very sweet man, that he was a radical. he had very radical ideas and he wanted to change things in a very dramatic weight in america. and, of course, he did in very profound ways. so this book restores the radical king. i m very proud of that and there were working with cornell on a brand-new book called justice matters which will be out in 2015, and which looks not only at racial inequality in america but really at justice issues very broadly, including lgbt justice, including economic justice, including immigrant rights, all kinds of issues which are so important in america today. so we are happy to have cornell back and that s what they re important to us. and then we also are publishing books cheryl, her book, place not race just cannot. she s a very well-known black legal scholar and she is looking at opportunity and injustice in america through the lens of place and, of course, that means class. it impl
