Doing More Today Nearly 50 Alabama State University seniors received the surprise of a lifetime when they heard the words âpaid in full!â The soon-to-be graduates, who thought they would not be able to graduate because of financial challenges, were ecstatic to learn in a surprise reveal that their balances to the university were cleared. The Regions Foundation, a nonprofit initiative of Regions Bank that supports community investments, provided a $250,000 grant to help make it happen. The grant was part of the âCross the Finish Lineâ fundraising campaign at ASU, which was also supplemented by donations from alumni. Organizers said the Regions Foundation grant would not only help 2021 graduates, it will also help next yearâs senior class. ....
Sometimes it takes a leap of faith and a financial risk to go to college. For 45 Alabama State University seniors, that risk came with sacrifices and still they faced unpaid balances ahead of graduation May 7. The vision of several years hard work culminating in a cap and gown on a stage was diminishing. That all changed Thursday. Gathered under the premise of a financial seminar to present the students with options to zero their balance, the seniors instead learned their accounts would be cleared thanks to a $250,000 donation from the Regions Foundation and $16,000 collected from ASU alumni. For 26-year-old Brandon Colvin, a Montgomery native graduating with a marketing degree, the surprise was overwhelming. ....
