The artwork, located on the corner of North Rampart and Kerlerec Streets, was one of the few remaining examples of a suite of paintings that Banksy created during a secretive visit to the city in 2008. The vandal, or vandals, cut through the clear plastic sheeting of the painting in order to spray a red tag over the âUmbrella Girlâsâ face, thereby attempting to ruin the piece for good. But the attackers failed. Photographer and Banksy admirer Carlos Fundora said he spent more than three hours on Saturday evening gently removing the fresh paint from the surface of the 12-year-old mural with a sanding sponge. He and a group of fellow artists then protected the âUmbrella Girlâ with a sheet of plywood until they were able to replace the clear plastic sheet on Monday. ....

Banksy s 12-year-old Gray Ghost Artwork Vandalised on Christmas day in USA FOLLOW US ON: A mural by British street artist Banksy in New Orleans, USA was recently defaced that irked many of his fans. According to a report, the incident took place on Christmas when an unscrupulous person or group of such people vandalised the plexiglass barrier protecting the 12-year-old artwork, popularly known as the Gray Ghost, to apply a deep red graffiti paint. The Gray Ghost is one of the 15 stencil works that mysteriously appeared around New Orleans in late August 2008. It appeared after Hurricane Gustav prompted the evacuation of New Orleans when the discreet artist and their assistants circulated through the streets creating art on buildings of the city. ....
