Man Shot By Police In L'Derry | Northern Ireland News, 19/04/2021


A man has been shot by police in L Derry.
The incident happened in the Top of Hill area at around 10.45pm on Saturday, 17 April.
The victim is being treated in hospital.
A police officer sustained knife wounds to his arm and head and was taken to hospital to be treated.
Sinn Fein MLA Martina Anderson said: The man is in intensive care in hospital and my first thoughts are that I hope he will survive his injuries.
A police officer also suffered a stab wound during the incident. Thankfully the officer has been released from hospital and I hope he too makes a full recovery. ....

Syrian family home attacked in Newry in hate crime | UTV

There has been widespread condemnation after a Syrian family s home was attacked in Newry in what police are treating as a hate crime.
It happened in the Carlingford Park area of the city in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The family had their windows broken and graffiti sprayed over the house.
Speaking about the incident, Chief Inspector Amanda Ford said: “It was reported at 9.30am (Sunday 18 April) that sometime around 2.00am this morning that graffiti had been sprayed and a number of windows were damaged at the property. “Enquiries are continuing and at this stage, the incident is being treated as a hate crime. This type of violent crime is unacceptable in our communities, hate crimes have no place in today’s society and will simply not be tolerated. ....

Windows Smashed During Hate Crime In Newry
Windows have been smashed at a home of a Syrian family which police are describing as a hate crime .
The attack occurred at Carlingford Park in Newry during the early hours of Sunday, 18 April.
Graffiti was also sprayed on the property.
Alliance Newry and Armagh representative Jackie Coade said: My thoughts are with the family who have suffered this ordeal, and they have my full support.
This sort of behaviour does not represent the vast majority of people in Newry. Racism has no place in our society, and the attitudes and actions of those who did this mindless attack must be condemned by everyone. ....
