Police cars, ambulances, and a fire truck lined a parking lot with yellow caution tape for a unique demonstration in downtown Houma on Saturday. Lawrence Levy’s The Funeral is Canceled is a live dramatization of the consequences of gun violence, drug abuse and gang involvement in the Black community. Levy and his crew travel around the United States to perform their message. “We are not here to entertain we are here to minister,” said Levy, a Lafayette native. NAACP President Jerome Boykin, Christina Smith and Carlee Harding have all come together to sponsor the event. Around 150 people showed up with around 45 people watching on Facebook live during the two-hour event. ....
