Shortly before midnight, Herrera, 19, and his sister, Carla Hilario, 16, were walking through the mobile home park where they live when they stopped to look at a vehicle. Jean Colon, known as Felix, and his brother, Joseph Colon, were on their porch and thought that Herrera was giving them a “nasty look.”
Joseph Colon later told deputies that Hererra gripped his waistband as if he had a weapon.
The brothers left their front porch and followed Herrera and Hilario as they walked away and other neighbors also left their homes to watch. The Colons’ sister, Gabriella Chirinos, 20, fired a stun gun that made a popping sound.
