Number of fines handed out for Covid breaches in Cumbria revealed


THE number of fines issued by Cumbria police for Covid breaches continues to climb during lockdown, new figures have revealed.
Data released by the National Police Chiefs Council has revealed that 1,112 fines have been given out for breaching Covid regulations - and there has been an increase recently due to the stricter guidelines.
The largest proportion of these are for local lockdown regulations (740) and there were zero given out for mass gatherings.
Superintendent Carl Patrick at Cumbria Constabulary said: “The increase in enforcement activity – both national and locally - is a reflection of the increased restrictions which are in place and the severity of the public health crisis. ....

RURAL businesses and farmers are being urged to check that their property and vehicles are secure during the festive period.
Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Peter McCall, says quad bikes and agricultural equipment are key targets for criminals to sell on to unsuspecting buyers or organised crime gangs.
In 2020, 65 quad bikes were stolen in Cumbria, 118 pieces of agricultural equipment were stolen, and 116 crimes were recorded of livestock theft with 1,476 animals being stolen.
Cumbria’s National Farmers Union launched a ‘Lock it or Lose it’ campaign in November, partnering with police to tackle quad bike and agricultural equipment theft.
It urged farmers to improve security at their farms to discourage criminals. ....
