continue to be. As Jamaica orders the Queen to pay billions in slavery
reparations committed during British imperial rule. God cannot save the Queen
for every atrocity committed in her name by the British Empire. Reparation
request involves Jamaica’s National Council of Reparation & its Cultural
Minister and Jamaica’s Attorney General will be filing the petition. Between
1640 and 1807, about 70% of all Africans were transported as slaves to the

Minister of Tourism, Culture, and the Arts Randall Mitchell and Prof Sir Hilary Beckles, chairman of the Caribbean Reparations Commission, are part of the line-up of speakers who will participate in the virtual launch of the 2021 Pan African Festival TT commemorating Emancipation and the observation of African Liberation Day.
A media release said the event will be broadcast on the Emancipation Support Committee of TT (ESCTT) Facebook Page, website, and You Tube Channel on May 25 from 5.30 pm.
Zakiya Uzoma-Wadada, executive chair of ESCTT, said, “In light of the challenging situation in TT, we thought it best to use our experience gained from presenting virtual events last year – to host the Launch of the festival virtually once again. ....

Caricom’s historic decision in 2013 to put reparations for chattel slavery and native genocide on its agenda gave impetus to this struggle for justice globally.
Dr Beckles has to be especially credited for his role in keeping the issue alive among governments in the region, some of whom have come under considerable pressure from former colonial powers …”

A wealthy Tory MP is facing demands to pay reparations for his family’s part in the Caribbean slave trade after the Observer revealed that he now controls the plantation where his ancestors created the first slave-worked sugar plantation in the British empire almost 400 years ago.
The MP for South Dorset, Richard Drax, has inherited the 250-hectare Drax Hall plantation in Barbados from his father, inquiries by the Observer have established. His father died in 2017. Drax has not yet declared the land or its properties in the parliamentary register of members’ interests. ....
