Photos by Lincoln Holder AS covid19 case numbers continue to rise in Trinidad and Tobago, Victoria Laboratories Ltd in San Fernando is experiencing its highest-ever turnout for private testing for the virus. The lab, at Guppy Street, Vistabella is one of four local accredited labs the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has authorised to do testing. PCR (polymerase chain reaction) testing is done here on a drive-through basis by appointment. It costs $1,100. The other facilities are Caribbean Forensic Services in Woodbrook, St Augustine Medical Laboratory Ltd and Maitri Maitri Diagnostics in San Juan.

Sean Luke Murder Trial:Lawyer raises concerns over client re-sampled for DNA

Sean Luke An attorney for one of the men, charged with murdering six-year-old Sean Luke when they were teenagers, has raised issues with his client being re-sampled for DNA this week. Attorney Evans Welch, who is leading Richard Chatoo’s legal team, raised the issue as virtual pre-trial hearings of the case continued before Justice Lisa Ramsumair-Hinds yesterday. Welch claimed that when he was contacted by prosecutor Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal about the re-sampling on Monday, he planned to visit his client to discuss the issue on Thursday as he believed that the swabs would be taken, next week. Welch claimed that he later learned that the process was completed on Wednesday.
