St. Martin News Network - MP Emmanuel, USP faction call for meeting on COHO.

PHILIPSBURG: - Independent MP Christopher Emmanuel, supported by the MP’s representing the USP Faction in Parliament Claudius Buncamper and Akeem Arrindell, has forwarded a letter to the Chairperson of Parliament requesting a Central Committee meeting to discuss the Caribbean Body for Reform & Development (COHO), the law supporting this entity and the country packages.
The letter reads as follows:
 
“On Tuesday, December 21, 2020, the Prime Minister Of St. Maarten and Minister of General Affairs Silveria Jacobs signed an agreement with the Netherlands for liquidity support (third tranche). The agreement also gave St. Maarten s consent for the Dutch government to establish the Caribbean Body for Reform & Development (COHO) in the Netherlands which reportedly will oversee numerous reform initiatives outlined in-country packages for St. Maarten, Aruba, and Curacao. ....

Jacobs: Talks with Knops mark ‘new beginning’ for Netherlands, St. Maarten
PHILIPSBURG - “A new beginning for the Netherlands and St. Maarten” was the description used by Prime Minister (PM) Silveria Jacobs to describe talks held with Dutch State Secretary for Interior Affairs and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops and his delegation last Thursday, January 7.
Jacobs, the Minister of General Affairs, Finance Minister Ardwell Irion, Justice Minister Anna Richardson and Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI Minister Egbert Doran and their support staff met with Knops and his delegation in a series of meetings at the Government Administration Building to update and follow-up on agreements made prior to the end of 2020. ....

The Netherlands must partially revoke financial instruction given to Curaçao
THE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD - The Netherlands must partially withdraw the financial instruction it gave Curaçao, the Council of State has ruled. Due to the intervention of Undersecretary Raymond Knops in 2019, Curaçao was obliged to compensate the budget deficits from 2017 to 2019 within three years, an amount of almost 250 million guilders.
Curaçao appealed the instruction because it felt that the terms of the Netherlands were too unreasonable and it did not give the government enough time to apply them. The Council of State now agrees with Curaçao. The Dutch government would not have paid enough attention to the resilience of the Curaçao economy, partly because of the crisis in Venezuela. ....
