She has worked with Kemp's ridleys in New York and Mexico; leatherbacks in Costa Rica; and loggerheads in Florida and Georgia. In 1996, the Caretta Research Project (CRP) in Savannah, Georgia, hired Kris as their Director and she’s been working there happily ever since. The CRP is a non-profit research, conservation and education program that has been protecting loggerhead sea turtles that nest on Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge in Georgia since 1973.
