"Chanteuse" concert series will feature female vocalists

“Chanteuse” concert series will feature female vocalists at the Jazz and Heritage Center
The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation will present “Chanteuse: Celebrating New Orleans Women in Music.” This six-week concert series on Saturday nights will showcase local talents and concludes with a concert by NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater, a triple Grammy-winning and Tony award-winning vocalist who serves as UN ambassador. “Chanteuse” is part of an ongoing effort by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation to address inequities in the music industry.
The concerts will take place outdoors at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center, located at 1225 N. Rampart Street. Doors will open at 6 p.m. prior to the start of the performance at 7 p.m. Admission is free to all six concerts, but attendees must RSVP at jazzandheritage.org to reserve tickets. Safety protocols, including face mask requirements, are also available at the website. ....

They get very focused. sometimes, you can get tunnel vision. the pursuit is on. you re not going to let that guy get away. especially what you know. you get that kind of tunnel vision. but in this case, they knew that these folks had killed a whole bunch of people. as soon as they start taking fire from that vehicle, they know this is not going to end well for somebody. that s a critical confrontation. not only do they know these are murderers using long serious guns, two ar-15 weapons, but they start receiving fire from the weapons, that changes it also? it does. in 1980, we had an incident after a bank robberies, the deputies got killed in the mountains where they were throwing hand grenades and shooting sat them with long rifles. this is in the back of an officer s mind. you re trying to keep your caren 0 the road. you re trying to stay up with the person you re pursuing e ii ....

robert gates has served as defense secretary under the former bush and now under president obama as well. he s expected to leave next year. how crucial is that position now with the war in afghanistan still ongoing? by the way, still having troops in iraq. that position is very, very crucial. and having the white house they said a person who has credibility on both sides of the aisle is very important. so they will be looking to recruit somebody very high profile. we have heard names like collin powell, we have heard the possibility that hillary clinton may be asked to move to that job. it would be very hard to convince her to do that. she seems to like her job at state. but i think they are looking at somebody very high profile for that job. and obviously with the war in afghanistan, that job is going to be very important. caren, thank you for adding perspective. we appreciate it. a programming note here. white house senior adviser valerie jarrett will be david gregory s gue ....
