The Chevy Corvette C8.R swept the IMSA sportscar championship series by winning the Manufacturers, Drivers, and Team titles in 2020. Celebrating this momentous
Chevrolet s IMSA dominance leads to a 2022 special edition.
Chevrolet dominated the 2020 IMSA sportscar championship series, driving into the sunset with the Manufacturer, Driver, and Team titles. An impressive victory, considering it was the mid-engine Corvette C8.R s inaugural season. To celebrate, Chevy will build 1,000 examples of the 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition. These models will be available to left-hand drive markets only.
The limited IMSA GTLM Championship Edition will resemble the No.3 and No. 4 race cars. Chevrolet chose the No. 3 for a good reason. Jordan Taylor, Antonio Garcia, and the No. 3 car s crew won the GTLM Drivers and Team Championships. Car No. 4 racked up enough points to take the Manufacturer s victory. This is Chevy s 13th Manufacturer title since 2001.
Over the next few days,
GM Authority will be behind the wheel of a 2021 Corvette Stingray. The 2021 Corvette is the second model year of the current, eighth generation model, which introduced an all-new mid-engine layout for the 2020 model year, a first in the nameplate’s history.
The 2021 Corvette is produced at the GM Bowling Green Assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Behind the cabin, the latest C8 Corvette is equipped with the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2, which is rated at 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Equipped with the optional factory performance exhaust (like our tester), output is bumped up to 495 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. All that muscle is routed exclusively to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The mid-engined Corvette will celebrate two years of existence in July 2021, and during this time, GM has waxed lyrical about the complexity that goes into converting the left-hand-drive model to right-hand drive. A few prototypes have already been produced, but General Motors Specialty Vehicles couldn’t source an RHD car for the promo at the end of this story.
