After countless hours spent dedicating themselves to Washington University athletics, seven senior student-athletes - Jabari Chiphe (basketball), Caraline Oakley (golf), Emma Kelley (track), Jared Phillips (tennis), Emily Talkow (softball), and Johnathan Smith (football) - sat down with Student Life to reflect on their four years as a part of the WashU Bears athletic program.
Washington University women’s golf’s junior Sydney Kuo won the WashU Spring Invite by two strokes with a score of 145 (one stroke over par) across two rounds on April 6 and 7. Led by Kuo, the No. 11 Washington University women’s golf team finished second, recording a score of 610 (34 strokes over par) on the par 72 course.
Entering the final day of the Golfweek October Classic on Oct. 15-17, junior Sydney Kuo stared down a four stroke gap between her and the leader. Kuo would quickly close that gap, shooting a tournament-low score of 67 (five under par) and placing first by three strokes.
“I think we're really trying to push an idea that, like, we’re 19 teams, but one family and we’re part of one whole large community,” SAAC Co-President and senior golfer Caraline Oakley said.
The Washington University women's golf team finished second at the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships, putting a team score of 938 behind George Fox University who won the title with score of 933. The finish was the highest in program history for the Bears.
