Crowds on track to break records after day one of Beef Aus

More than 30,000 people passed through the gates for the first day of Beef Australia 2021 - Ian Weigh Toyota’s Peoples Day - on Monday.
With 31,545 attending on day one, the event was on track to break records.
“It’s so amazing to be finally be here, day one … it is a beautiful day in Rockhampton, the weather is shining upon us and there is great crowds arriving here through the gates,” Beef Australia Board chairman Bryce Camm said on Monday.

War of words erupts over growing CQ housing crisis


Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry is calling on the state Labor members for Rockhampton and Keppel to step up and help Central Queensland’s “housing crisis”.
In a letter addressed to The Morning Bulletin, Ms Landry claimed Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke and Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga had a “if I look away it will go away” attitude to local issues, including Central Queensland’s “housing affordability crisis”.

Brooke Adams and Hannah Goodwin, senior students at the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School, are preparing to go out into the world and help people.
Neither of them aspire to become a politician; Brooke and Hannah intend to study medicine and dentistry, respectively.
On Tuesday morning, they met with a woman who also left their school, albeit some years ago, with no plans to become a politician.
Today she – Michelle Landry – represents our region in the federal parliament as the Member for Capricornia and Assistant Minister for both Children and Families, and Northern Australia.
Ms Landry visited the school to speak with the Year 11 and 12 students about the rewards and pitfalls of leadership. ....

CQ agricultural shows receive cash boost

Several agricultural shows in Central Queensland have been awarded a cash boost from the Australian Government to help them bounce back from COVID-19 cancellations in 2020.
More than 100 events across the country were approved for $710,818 in supplementary funding under the Supporting Agricultural Shows and Field Days program, which will be delivered to grantees in April-June 2021.
Central Queensland shows that were awarded the funding include $70,000 for Ag Grow Emerald, $7734.20 for Alpha Show, $2485.25 for Barcaldine Show, $68,945.51 for Callide Show, $13,984.55 for Clermont Show, $10,000 for Comet Show, $48,453.97 for Emerald Show, $15,000 for Gladstone Show, $70,000 for Mackay Show, $70,000 for Mount Larcom Show, $5753 for Mount Morgan Show, $70,000 for Pioneer Valley Show, $15,000 for Sarina Show, $10,000 for Springsure Show, $8783.46 for Wowan Show, and $70,000 for Yeppoon Show. ....

Grants available for ex-service organisations

Ex-service organisations in Capricornia are encouraged to apply for the 2021-22 Building Excellence in Support and Training grants program.
Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said the services provided by advocacy groups were highly valued by the ex-service community.
Ms Landry said ex-service organisations provided vital advocacy services for current and former serving men and women.
The Building Excellence in Support and Training grants program will fund a range of essential support measures from ex-service organisations and advocates, including helping veterans with their compensation claims and ensuring they get access to entitlements and services, she said.
The services provided by ex-service organisations can help veterans and their families access local support and resources, empowering them to improve their health and wellbeing, stay well, age well and engage fully in social and economic life. ....
