BENNINGTON â Battle of the Future â a local youth basketball group â held its first annual toy drive on Saturday in front of the Grace Christian School. Battle of the Future director DeShawn Hamlet organized the event along with fellow member Capri Pelzer. Youth members of Battle of the Future, mostly high school-age athletes â helped hand out the toys to families in need. Sixteen cars lined up outside Grace Christian ahead of the 1 p.m. start. In total, Hamlet estimated around 30 cars participated in the hour-long toy drive. One of Hamletâs friends donated money toward the toys, as well as six Christmas trees. The Christmas trees were donated and delivered to local families the week prior to the toy drive. ....
