Family feels seen by accessible playground plans for Lansing
For Julia and Marlon Olivas, trips to the playground have always been difficult.
The Olivas three children all have some form of autism, which can trigger sensory overload. On one outing years ago, their eldest daughter, Charlotte, 9, fell and broke her leg. On another, their son, Gabe, 6, tried to run away from his mother. Their youngest, Violet, 2, recently fell from a rock climbing wall and got scraped up.
I have to be really picky (about) where I take all three kids alone by myself, Julia said. It’s really important that there’s not a place where Gabe and Violet can run off to. ....

Freihofer's Run for Women hosts 8-week comeback challenge


ALBANY, N.Y. — As the region begins a slow return to normalcy following 12 months of pandemic life, organizers of the 43rd Freihofer’s Run for Women (FRW) launched a new, two-month virtual fitness initiative called the “Freihofer’s Run for Women Comeback Challenge” aimed at encouraging local families to get outside, be active and explore.
The challenge begins May 1 and runs through June 30. It is open to all ages and focuses on not only being active, but also exploring our region. Registration closes on April 30. The fee is $40. To register and learn more, visit: https://runsignup.com/Race/NY/Albany/Comeback21 ....
