Designer selected for Farmington Park improvements

A designer has been selected for a proposed $500,000-plus improvement to Farmington Park.
The Hutchinson City Council approved a staff recommendation to hire Engineering Consultants PA of Hutchinson for $33,000 to draw up plans for improving the park. The company was one of nine to submit proposals.
“The scope of the project is to include community engagement with public meetings, design, construction documents, and administration,” said Parks Director Justin Combs.
Neighbors in the Farmington addition are dissatisfied with the park and the project has been on the city’s Capital Improvements Project list for five years, Combs said.
Council members hope public art can help the city diversify its visitor attractions along the lines of larger cities such as Chicago and Richmond where murals and other public art projects have proved to be tourism draws.

RAPID CITY, S.D. The Rapid City Council is set to initiate the process to provide accessibility improvements to one of Rapid City’s most iconic locations.
On Monday night, the Council will consider a proposal authorizing hiring a consultant for design and construction documents for upgrading pedestrian routes, constructing safety features, and installing new and upgraded visitor amenities to Dinosaur Park.
The improvements were presented to the City’s Vision Committee in 2018 and were part of the package of items brought forward to the City Council and approved in early 2019 for Vision Fund allocations. The projected $2.5 million project was approved for $1.6 million from the Vision Fund and would be combined with $900,000 from the Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department’s Capital Improvements Project (CIP) Fund.
