Prasa has initiated operation Bhekela to relocate over 2,600 households that have been living along the Cape Town Central line, with the aim of restoring rail services.
Approximately 10 families living by the central railway line, which has been not operational since 2019, were moved to a location about one kilometre from the Philippi train station.

The area along the railway line has been occupied since the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s also one of the reasons for delays in bringing the train service back online.
