WEST OLIVE The Ottawa County elections division received national recognition for an online voter information campaign it oversaw during the 2020 election cycle. 
The Ottawa County Clerks and Register of Deeds Office received a Clearinghouse Award for Outstanding Innovations in Election Cybersecurity and Technology from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) for its #OttawaVotes campaign.
The #OttawaVotes campaign began in 2019 with a goal of improving communication and transparency toward voters for the 2020 election cycle. The awareness campaign used billboards, radio spots and social media to spread factual information about local election processes and how to participate in the democratic process. ....

CANTON TWP., MI A Canton Township man accused of forging his daughter s signature on an absentee voter ballot in the November general election was sentenced to probation Tuesday after pleading guilty to a lesser charge, according to the Michigan Attorney General s office.
Paul Parana, 47, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor election law violation and was sentenced to 90 days probation and ordered to pay court costs and fees of roughly $1,100 by Judge Deborah Thomas in Wayne County Circuit Court, the AG s office said in a news release. ....
