Thursday, May 13, 2021 - 12:57 pm CANTON - Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley received the Canton Democratic Party nomination for town supervisor at a Wednesday evening caucus, outdistancing challenger Karen McAuliffe. Ashley garnered 112 votes while McAuliffe collected 51 votes. Canton Democrats did not nominate a candidate for Canton Town Clerk. Earlier this month, acting town clerk Karin S. Blackburn withdrew from the race citing disrespectful treatment and a “toxic environment” at the municipal building. With no Democratic candidate nominated, that leaves Republican candidate Heidi L. Smith running unopposed. Democrats also endorsed David K. Nelson and current Councilor James T. Smith, each running for a four-year term on Town Council; and Martha Foley Smith, running for a two-year unexpired Town Council term. ....
