Jaime Battiste tabled a study on the implementation of Mi kmaq treaty fishing rights to support a moderate livelihood back in October.(CBC)
A report into the implementation of Mi kmaw treaty rights in support of a moderate livelihood fishery will completed by next month, according to the MP for Sydney-Victoria Jaime Battiste.
Battiste launched the study in October on behalf of the standing committee on fisheries and oceans.
It includes testimony from Mi kmaw scientists, fishermen, leaders and fishing associations, along with lawyers and academics. I can safely share that we heard from the Mi kmaw scientists, we heard from Mi kmaw fishermen, we heard from Mi kmaw leaders, we heard from fishing associations. We heard from a vast number of people talking about what the current challenge was.
