OSAKA, Japan World champion Anna Shcherbakova won the women’s free skate on Saturday to seal Russia s first-ever victory at the figure skating World Team Trophy.
Japan’s Kaori Sakamoto finished second with 150.29 points ahead of Russia s Elizaveta Tuktamysheva in third with 146.23 points.
Alison Schumacher of Tecumseh, Ont., placed eighth in the women’s free program. Gabrielle Daleman of Newmarket, Ont., was 10th. ....

Keegan Messing headlines the Canadian team for next month s world figure skating championships in Stockholm.
The worlds, March 22-28, cap a rocky season for Canadian skaters that saw both Skate Canada International and the national championships from which the world team normally would have been chosen cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols.

Poirier: Cancellation of Canadian championships a bit of a relief amid uncertainty

The reigning Canadian ice dance champion with partner Piper Gilles said there is still a small chance they ll compete at the world championships in Stockholm in March if the championships even happen, and under the right protocols.
Otherwise, he and Gilles are content to start focusing on next year s Beijing Olympics.
I m OK honestly, he said in a phone interview Wednesday. In a lot of ways, the decision is a relief. It s sad and it s weird. I ve not (missed) a Canadian championships, whether it s the baby one or the big one, in almost 20 years. ....
