Across the state, from San Diego to the northern border, enrollments at many community colleges have plummeted during the pandemic, threatening the future of some campuses, the system’s Board of Governors has learned.
Systemwide, more than 260,000 fewer students enrolled in fall 2020 compared with fall 2019,
a 16.8% drop. Enrollment in California’s community college system, the largest in the nation with about 2 million full- and part-time students, has largely been flat for the past decade.
Colleges that experienced significant drops could be at risk if they “don’t stabilize or build back enrollment” over the next several years, said Paul Feist, a spokesman for the California Community Colleges chancellor’s office, reiterating a warning that was delivered in a memo to the systemwide Board of Governors last month. ....

OC Bus serves multiple county vaccination sites | Orange County Breeze

The Orange County Transportation Authority, which operates the OC Bus system, is making it easy for people who are signed up to receive a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine to safely and affordably reach sites providing vaccinations.
OC Bus has options for travel directly to or near the county’s vaccination sites in Anaheim, Santa Ana and Aliso Viejo.
“I’m encouraged Orange County residents are eager to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus to protect themselves and our entire community,” said OCTA Chairman Andrew Do, also the county’s First District Supervisor. “OCTA is doing its part to ensure that, particularly in the core of our county, our residents can access vaccination sites safely, comfortably, and affordably via OC Bus.” ....

COVID-19 hospitalization rates continue to fall in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. - Orange County reported 391 new cases of COVID-19 and 44 additional deaths on Saturday.
Hospitalizations continued a downward trend, dropping from 636 on Friday to 591, with the number of coronavirus patients in intensive care dropping from 215 to 196, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency.
The county has 15.1% of its ICU beds available and 63% of its ventilators. Of the 44 deaths reported Saturday, 11 were skilled nursing facility residents and nine were assisted living facility residents, hiking the death tolls among those populations to 932 and 419 respectively.
The death reports are staggered because they come from a variety of sources and are not always logged immediately. Saturday s numbers brought the county s totals to 244,380 cases and 3,770 fatalities since the pandemic began. ....

Disneyland Resort Super POD site to close temporarily

The Disneyland Resort Super POD site will close temporarily, due to a lack of vaccine supply. Severe weather across the country has delayed delivery of COVID-19 vaccine supplies across the State of California, including to Orange County.
The expected Moderna vaccine delivery on Tuesday, February 16, did not arrive. As a result, Moderna vaccine inventory is very low. State guidance encourages dispensing all vaccine supplies as quickly as possible and does not allow for maintaining a large inventory in reserve.
The Disney Super POD site, which primarily dispenses the Moderna vaccine, will close today, through Monday, February 22, pending receipt of additional supply on Monday. The opening of the Anaheim Convention Center site, scheduled for Wednesday, February 24, is potentially delayed, dependent on Moderna vaccine supply. ....
