Middleboro YMCA Spin-a-thon is back after a year off

The Middleboro YMCA held its 11th annual Spin-a-thon fundraiser Saturday, April 24 at the Y’s Camp Yomechas.
Over 80 participants registered to “pedal with a purpose” and help raise money to provide financial assistance for summer camp, the Y-Ability program for kids with differing abilities, or Livestrong® at the YMCA for cancer survivors. In addition to those who were in attendance, there were also many sponsors, volunteers, virtual riders and community partners that made this year’s Spin-a-thon event the most successful to date.
In addition to the spinners we also had our “Jr. Riders” pedal with a purpose as well by riding their bike around the horse corrals. ....

Fall River and New Bedford mark Earth Day with cleanups and a movie


NEW BEDFORD As the world returns to normal, we can t go back to business-as-usual, proclaims the national Earth Day organization on its website.
This year marks the 51st anniversary of Earth Day, and while national events will be held virtually again because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are some local things happening to celebrate and move on the group s theme this year: Restore Our Earth.
Captain Jack Peterson Dog Park, 111 Greenwood Street in New Bedford will host a clean up of the park on Saturday, April 24 beginning at 10 a.m. Rain date is Sunday. Volunteers with collect rubbish in and around the park as well doing some weeding. Feel free to bring garden tools.  ....
