Michigan landed their third commitment of the 2024 cycle today when 4-star wing Khani Rooths committed to Michigan. Juwan Howard dipped back into his IMG top-50 pipeline (Moussa Diabate + Jett Howard) to secure a major talent that brings some recruiting momentum back to Ann Arbor. Rooths chose Michigan over fellow-finalists Georgia and Florida State after releasing a final three on November 2nd. All signs pointed toward Georgia until Khani's official visit to Ann Arbor last weekend completely turned the tide in favor of the Wolverines. GURU RANKINGS Rivals ESPN 24/7 On3 4 , #33 Ovr 4 , #23 Ovr, #4 PF 4 , #29 Ovr, #7 PF 4 , #19 Ovr, #10 SF All of the services agree that Rooths is a 4-star prospect that sits in a tight range between 19-33 overall. Three of the four services have Khani at 6'8, while Rivals goes 6'7. The weight is near universal at 195-200 pounds. SCOUTING Versatility and upside are the first words that come to mind when evaluating Khan ....
I made several trips last summer to get a detailed look at 2023 signee Papa Kante. Suiting up for New York Rens in the Nike EYBL league from April - July, this was a great opportunity to see how Kante stacked up against the very best competition in the country. Note - Papa is #5 in white/blue in the clips below Finishing Papa displays the ability to finish with soft touch in traffic. He's a solid release valve/dumpoff option against a scrambling defense that understands how to create advantageous finishing angles. He occasionally flashes the ability to be a lob threat when given adequate space as seen in the first possession of the clip above, but this is not consistently part of his offensive package just yet. But I do wish Kante were more violent/explosive at the rim. He's a bit too finesse-oriented with his finishing approach in my opinion. And that can lead to some struggles as seen below. The common theme in all of the misses above....lower body contact on ....
Michigan secured the second pledge for the 2023 cycle when George Washington III verbally committed today. After de-committing from Ohio State in September, the Wolverine staff quickly jumped in and landed the sharpshooter after a strong official visit in October. GURU RANKINGS Rivals ESPN 247 On3 EM Scouting 4 , #77 overall, #15 SG 4 , #54 overall #14 SG 4 , #106 overall, #18 SG 3 , #134 overall #15 SG 4 , #121 overall #28 SG ESPN is the most bullish on Washington, with placement just outside the top 50. On3, 247, Rivals and EM Scouting aren't quite as high, slotting him in the 75-135 range. The worldwide leader isn't doing a ton of in-person evaluations these days, so your author urges you to give a bit more credence to other publications in the industry. There is general consensus in terms of size, as all services agree on 6'2 with weight ranging from 165 - 175 pounds. SCOUTING I first evaluated George in April for EYBL Session II in Indianapolis, as he ....
3/24/2022 – Michigan 55, Villanova 63 – 19-15, 11-9 Big Ten, Season Over This is not going to be a romantic post about the end of a season. Last year, yes, romance abounds. This year it's time to say good job making the best out of a bad situation and start speculating about the future. Because, well, sometimes the bear eats you: Tonight was Michigan's worst 2-point field-goal percentage (34.9 percent) since Feb. 4, 2020 in a loss to Ohio State. Michigan played 70 games between the two performances. Zach Shaw (@ ZachShaw) March 25, 2022 The other stat floating around out there was Michigan going 12/29 on dunks and layups. This kind of thing has happened before, but for it to happen against a team with no real shotblocking (and to a team that was 28th in shooting at the rim nationally) is boggling. Much like the early going of the Colorado State game, it felt like every weighted coin flip came out the wrong way. Michigan would put up a shot that rolled around on the rim ....
I took an in-depth look at 2021 signee Tarris Reed to get a better feel for what Juwan Howard is getting from his big man of the future. The St. Louis native transferred to top-10 ranked Link Year Academy for his senior season, so this was a great opportunity to see him square off against some of the premier competition in the country for three games. The first contest came against top-5 ranked Sunrise Christian Academy in early February, where Tarris went head-to-head with Duke signee Mark Mitchell and 3-star big Bobi Klintman. The very next day, Reed battled with top-150 big man Keba Keita of Wasatch Academy. The final game came against top-10 ranked Arizona Compass Prep, which featured Tarris going up against top-100 center Sadraque Nganga and 4-star sophomore Aiden Sherrell. FACE-UP GAME This is the most polished facet of Reed's offensive skillset at this point. Reed excels getting the ball on the elbow/wing against legit bigs and taking 1-2 dribbles right before changing ....
