This is video just in from dull less international airport, outside washington, d. C. , and these are our first pictures of u. S. And afghan evacuees arriving safely in this country and there are plenty more on the way. We saw proof of that earlier this week, when more than 600 people packed on to a c17 military transport plane. So for more than 5,000 americans, families and afghan refugees have been evacuated or relocated. Our new reporting finds as many as 15,000 americans are still in afghanistan as we speak and its not clear how were going to get them all out. On tuesday, the administration told Senate Staffers they do not have a plan to evacuate u. S. Citizens outside kabul, because of taliban checkpoints. When this plan was put in place, we prepared for a number of contingencies and recognized that events unfolding has drawn Concern And Attention throughout the world. We are actively monitoring the situation, what is happening on the ground, and we will continue to support the commander and adjust forces as necessary to allow the mission to be successful. Our troops are trained professionals and they understand the complexity, the urgency and importance of their mission. They remain agile.
