Toll questions still linger 2 years after Border West Expressway opening
EL PASO, Texas It s been nearly two years since the Border West Expressway opened. Despite there being toll gantries up, it s still a toll free road.
But the question remains: Will there or will there not be toll lanes in the Sun City?
El Pasoan Kay Gamboa is among those concerned about the added expense for driving in toll lanes.
“I was hoping they would never start charging people, she said. I know a couple of years back they wanted to institute that program but it was not successful, and every time I take it I get a little nervous that maybe this one time they are going to start charging.”

The new westside toll road is still free to use and it looks as though it will stay that way into the new year.
The Border West Expressway was going to be free for all to use for a brief introductory period and it now appears that it will remain that way into 2021. The tollway was created by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority (CRRMA) and officially opened in October of 2019. Over a year later, there is still no charge to use the roadway . which is fine with me!
