Two fires burning in Siskiyou County this week prompted evacuations in communities southeast and east of Yreka.
Both the Lava Fire and the Tennant Fire grew overnight, fueled by high temperatures and low humidity levels, dry fuels like brush and winds blowing through the valley.
Those conditions expected to last throughout the week, rugged terrain and lack of water in the immediate vicinity are making firefighting efforts more difficult.

The Lava Fire burning between the city of Weed and Mt. Shasta jumped from 1,446 acres on Monday to 13,300 acres as of 10 a.m. Tuesday.
It s 20% contained, according to the U.S. Forest Service. More than 800 personnel are fighting the fire.
Tuesday, firefighters planned to scout for containment opportunities north of the fire and hold constructed lines to the south and west, cutting off the fire before it reaches residential areas, the Forest Service said. Steep rocky terrain, limited road access to the fire and limited water sources close to the fire are impeding firefighting efforts in the area.

There was something fishy going on at 26
th and Alabama St. Joking aside, this was one case that was easy to solve just by following your police instincts, especially your “nose” for the truth.
Because of the rotation plan that Inspectors Bureau Lieutenants Whiskey John and Dazzling Dan had in place, as soon as the Radio Dispatch phone rang, and one of these bosses got up to put the call-out assignment on the white board, the next listed team started getting briefcases and cover coats in place.
That was Laurel and me… “26
th and Alabama- Armed Robbery with two victims and multiple suspects. Semi-truck involved.” Everything but the truck comment was pretty normal, so we headed out quickly without question because of number of people involved, and because Laurel and I both worked the Mission before and knew that corner all too well.
